Czar Peter House (Czaar Peterhuisje)- One of the oldest wooden houses in the Netherlands, built in 1632. It’s famous for hosting Russian Czar Peter the Great in 1697. Look for the names of world leaders, including Napoleon, carved into the windows.

For a quieter alternative to Zaanse Schans, cycle to the village of Westzaan. You’ll find De Schoolmeester, the only wind-powered paper mill in the world still in operation.
